When a correction is noted

Minor fixes
Spelling, formatting and accessibility fixes may be made without a public note when they do not change meaning.
Material errors
If an error could have changed a reader’s decision, we correct the affected content and add a visible note explaining the change.
Unsupported claims
We qualify, remove or temporarily withdraw a consequential claim that cannot be supported while we review its evidence.
How the review works

  1. Locate the claim

    Identify the wording, data or tool output and the evidence previously used.

  2. Check the evidence

    Check the responsible authority or first-party source, and a second reliable source where needed.

  3. Keep conflicts visible

    Record unresolved disagreement instead of choosing the more convenient version.

  4. Update affected content

    Correct dependent guides, comparisons, planners, metadata, structured data and downloads.

  5. Date substantive work

    Advance a page’s substantive-update date only when that page received substantive editorial work.

  6. Explain material changes

    Add a visible correction note when the error could have changed a reader’s decision.

Availability and response times vary. Evidence determines the outcome.

If a page is withdrawn

A page without a current replacement returns an appropriate 404 or 410 status. A relevant replacement may receive a redirect. Removed content should not remain online as a misleading success page.
